I called to make sure it was on hand earlier in the day. I spoke to a nice, polite lady (I am omitting the name) who told me the price for 40 lbs would be $15.xx. When I got there after work, because you have to go after work as they are not open on the weekends (I would think Saturdays would be the busiest & most profitable days for them), I asked for the feed and was told it was $2.10 more PER BAG. I was going to buy several, but not for that price. The cashier was nice about it asked an older guy (owner perhaps?), they guy said it was $17.xx. I told him I spoke to such and such and she told me the price was $2.10 cheaper. He looked at me like I was a liar and a freak of nature. Another employee mumbled something and the guy said we'll have to talk about this later. The cashier told me that the guy would make it right. Apparently the cheaper price was for a "dealer" at the location across the street. I asked him if I needed to go across the street, he told me that I couldn't. He said that my "dealer" could come up and get it for that price, to which I responded, "I highly doubt that they would. They can get it cheaper, just not in time." The older guy asked me where I was from and I told him. Never got a price break or anything. I would have left the store, but I needed the feed. No apology for the incorrect price, no offer to make things right, absolutely nothing. If you go to Des Moines Feed & Garden's website the motto states, "We are a family owned and family managed business since 1944. We pay close attention to quality products, excellent service and a fair and honest relationship with our customers, as well as our suppliers." Unfortunately they cannot live up to their motto this day in age. I have shopped here many times before, but no more. I hope the $2.10 mark up makes up for the unknown amount of money I will no longer spend there.

If you live in or near des Moines it is a good place to visit, its on Hubble ave just a few blocks off of University ave going west.
