The last post explains why I was treated terrible by the owner/manager of this nursery. He obviously has a major chip on his shoulder and has to constantly talk about his 30 year background in the santa clarita valley and his expertise. I wanted drought resistant plants and would like to get rid of my lawn. He ranted and raved on and on about how there is no water shortage, etc. He actually got out of control and angry and I was glad to get out of there unharmed. I would not recommend any female to go there and if you do, agree with anything he says. Also another nursery would not even recommend any planting in this weather and season and advised that I wait until late October to do any major planting. They sound like the experts to me. Home Depot told me to wait as well as Green Thumb in Newhall. And Greenthumb said many customers have complained about rude treatment at this nursery. Home depot will reimburse you if your plants die within one year. I have over ten years in professional biotech sales with high level customers, VPs, CEOs and physicians, so know poor unprofessional service when I see it. And this was the worst ever! He needs help.

I almost forgot to mention that the owner/mgr is on the water board in santa clarita.

I ABSOLUTLY LOVED THIS NURSERY. THE OWNER, MANAGERS, AND EMPLOYEES WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND VERY HELPFUL. ANYTIME I SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY YARD OR ANY QUESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX OR PREVENT THINGS FROM GOING WRONG I JUST CALL AND THEY WALK ME THROUGH IT STEP BY STEP. THEY HAVE A GREAT SELECTION OF WHAT ACTUALLY GROWS IN SANTA CLARITA VALLEY AND HELP ME TO PICK OUT FROST TOLERENT PLANTS. BEFORE I CAME INTO GREEN LANDSCAPE NURSERY I PLANTED MANY THINGS THAT DIED IN THE COLD AND I REALLY DIDNT KNOW ANY BETTER. THEY TOLD ME WHAT I DID WRONG AND HELPED ME FIX IT.

This nursery was in the L.A. Daily News last week on an article about native/drought tolerant plants. He basically downplayed the fact that more people are going this route;(getting rid of the lawn, rethinking plant choices, etc.) He is a seller of Marathon sod; that is the reason. He seems to think that a lawn is a better way to go than not having one. As a native plant gardener in Lancaster he could not be more wrong. My solution is to skip traditional nurseries altogether and concentrate on specialty/internet companies. A traditional nursery will try to talk you out of going the lawn-free route. They also think that you are not smart enough to do this type of gardening. do a little homework and some research and it is no more difficult than traditional gardening. I would never recommend this nursery to anyone. The only nursery worth anyone's time in the Santa Clarita Valley is Green Arrow Nursery. They at least carry some natives as well as a fine selection of drought-tolerant plants.
