I have always had an excellent experience at Green Thumb. I was so glad when Green Thumb West was started. WoW. I can take it with me!
I'm sorry someone had a miserable experience when she overheard someone she thought was a new owner (previous post regarding a "new owner" in 2007). I've popped in (GTW)many times & have done business with some of the new & older employees. I usually wait around to speak with a former neighbor who I thought always owned Green Thumb West.
Just go in and listen. I believe she's from Australia and gives awesome gardening advise. Really. She knows the terrain of subdivisions and what they are made of, appropriate and inappropriate plants, gives advice and still leaves the decisions to you. As she says, "and that's the 15 cent version (of advice)".
You just cannot make such snap judgements. It's much too tiring to try gathering up all those emotions when you find you are wrong.

I saw the new owner of green thumb screaming and cursing on his cell phone. My children heard the foul things that were coming out of his mouth. He did not even have the decency to go into his office to conduct business. I will never go back there again and urge everyone in the city of augusta to do the same. Very unresponsible......

A great place to get basic seeds and seedlings for vegetable and flower gardens. The seeds are very inexpensive and sold in bulk. For $1-2 you can get more than enough seeds for a medium to large garden. The selection is complete, but only for your standard vegetables and herbs. They range from 99 cents for a single average sized seedling to $3 for 9 small seedlings and $5-6 for larger plants like the jumbo-stalk tomatoes.
The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They do not mind taking time with you to explain things or make suggestions.
If you have some extra money you can find some wonderful custom garden accessories, pots, benches, bird feeders, and other fun supplies.
Their flower selection is second to none in Augusta.
Some things like mulch and fertilizer are a bit cheaper if purchased through a large chain like wal-mart.

I will Ditto farmerdill on this one. I am a fairly novice gardener and have always received great one-on-one service and advice from these folks. Not a lot of exotic stuff, but good stuff just the same. It's just a lot of fun to walk through the place, too.

This is the best general purpose garden center that I have found in this area. They have a very wide selection of perennials and annuals. They also carry the more adapted trees for this area. Not a wide selection in this category, no pushing the envelope, but adequate. Vegetable plants are available (Bonnie's) but nothing exotic. They also have bulk vegetable seeds ( Popular cultivars). They have the best selection of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers around.
