Walter Andersens is the best place in San Diego to buy unusual garden products and you will get what you pay for. I have bought tomatoes many years in a row at Home Depot--never again--their grower continually places ID sticks in the tomatoes selling Early Girls and Cherrie's as more expensive Beef Steaks and Roma. Last year I saved & photographed the stick and plant, took the mature plant with a tomatoe to the Garden Mgr at Home Depot. Not only got a refund but they hunted down two mature Beefsteak plant and gave me free replacement supplies. It didn't make up for the lost time, water and organic soils I purchased but it did give me satisfaction to prove to them they are selling fraudulent tomato plants.

the other store I would be careful is Armstrong, I bought a couple of tomato plants there and didn't notice they were sick with fungus or nemapods on the lower stalks. Normally I think they sell quality stuff and when I returned them they acknowledged they discovered the infections and had returned the plants. It infected my soil, I had to excavate the soil and block off that section of my garden so they would not spread to all the garden. I added new compost etc. and didn't use that quarter for a year to provide time for the compost to kill the nemopods.

Walter Andersens even sells weird products like Wolf Piss in powder form that I used to scare away the possems, rats and coons that were raiding my garden. It works but you have to apply it around the perimeter every week. Andersens now sells a motion activated water sprayer, not cheap, but it sprays anything that gets 360 degrees near the garden so I can just install it and leave it. Convenient and it works.
