If you love plants, especially houseplants and cacti, this is a wonderful place to visit. A friend and I drive up to visit from Springfield, MA at least four times a year. We are very much into cacti and succulents and there is always a large selection to choose from. Their prices can't be beat anywhere. It's always a pleasure walking around the greenhouses especially in the winter when it's freezing outside. As busy as this place can get it's always a pleasure to check out as they are always well staffed and checking out doesn't take long. I've also found the staff to be well informed and they are always ready to answer any questions you might have. We're already looking forward to our next trip up.

I visit the 'Place by the Side of the Road several times during the year, the plants are healthy and the staff are great with any questions. If you develop a problem with the plant during the year, they will take it back and work with you.

The team there is a pleasure to work with.

I have moved and haven't been here for years but used to go out of my way to visit here. Great place, great selection of plants and gift items. Love the fish. Where I now live we don't have any place like this.....I miss it and I highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance.

If I am on Rt 101, stopping at House by the Side of the Road is a must! Especially during the winter, it is a much needed green fix oasis, with its sprawling, somewhat unruly greenhouses- full of plants from ivies to orchids, ferns, and cactus...the large water tanks bubbling and huge koi swimming under the water plants. Come spring, more greenhouses are put into gear with thousands of annuals- pansies, petunias and such- then later, the perennial benches open up outside. I think it is the exuberance of the place that makes it so great. Its not a place for the gardener looking for a specific unusual perennial plant; there are nurseries that are more specialized for perennials that I would choose instead for that.. But for certain, there will be something in the medley of plants and garden stuff that a gardener will want to take home.

I enjoy this garden center. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I tend to prefer it over some of the closer options. It's not huge, but they do have a nice selection of shrubs. They also have a nice water garden section and a gift shop. Trees don't seem to be their focus. There are some, but selection is smaller.
