I was looking to line our white 6 foot fence with some darker green shrubs. Want to move the rose bushes and fountain... I like Edith Bogue Magnolia but afraid she would be too big. Don't think Little Gem would do well in the Pa area. I was looking at Holly bushes the up right ones but then thought too picky.. really do not want a arborvite either.. Looking for something that gets at least 6 foot to 15 foot hight but not much higher then that and more upright..I see many different ornamental evergreens but not sure of their names.. Love the bigger leaves of Magnolia. Any other suggestions?

Put your observation skills to work. What you likely do not like are the hard edges created by the fence and plants that are nearly all the same size. Paint yourself a picture with different sized plants. Maybe consider making the grass edge follow a curving garden hose to break that hard visual edge. Unless you pay a landscaper to do the above it takes time....doing things and then later adjusting or even changing as you get the artistic hang of soft changes of the edges and bed contents to break down sameness or hard edges. Find a bed in your community that you like and attempt to mimic what you like.
