Gardening Questions: What kind of trees you recomend me to plant

CarlosB San Salvador (El Salvador) November 12, 2008 1:56 PM	It would like to know what kind of trees I must plant in an area of my new house in construction that is a slope of as 35 grades. The trees must not be very high since they would cover me the view, it must protect the slope against the erosion and that do not need a lot of water. I live in Central America and the climate is tropical. We have a six months of rain season of and six months of dry seasons. The slope as you can see in the picture has +- 35 grades of inclination. dp72 Woodway, TX (Zone 8a) November 12, 2008 2:20 PM	The best advice for the type of tree for you to plant will need to come from someone who lives in your area. That's true wherever in the world anyone lives. If I were you, I'd depend on ground covers to control erosion, and not trees. You may want to plant trees on the slope, but ground covers will be more effective to control erosion and they will develop must faster than trees. Best of luck to you!
CarlosB San Salvador (El Salvador) November 12, 2008 6:21 PM	Thank you. The photo shows when the ground was carried out, now I have already sowed grassland vetiver ( I don't the name in english ) in the whole slope, which will protect the erosion, now I want to sow trees

ecrane3 Dublin, CA (Zone 9a) November 12, 2008 10:04 PM	I went looking to see if there was a good list of trees that are native to El Salvador since things that are native to your area are often more trouble-free than non-native plants--here's a list that I came across that you may find helpful (not all of them are trees though): [HYPERLINK@es.wikipedia.org] This is by no means an exhaustive list, but in the quick searching that I did I didn't come across a better list, just references to a tree or two here and there.
