Hi. I bought some Oriental lily bulbs to plant this Fall, but because of a minor accident with my leg, was unable to plant them. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, and my planting zone is 5A. The ground is still quite workable, but I am wondering if it may be too late. In Winter it can go as low as -20-25 degrees at times. Is it possible to save these bulbs over the winter in the basement, maybe in peatmoss? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.-Phyllis

Hi Phyllis,
I'm pretty much in the same zone you are, and I've successfully planted daffodil bulbs in mid November. I've been told that as long as the ground is workable, it's never too late to plant bulbs.

I have read that also. In fact, most bulb companies won't ship your orders until there is definitive cold weather. If the fall still has warm spells it can trigger the bulbs to start growing in the warm ground which you don't want! Bulbs are very easy to keep and hard to kill. You should be fine. -Brit (5b)

Hi shebs and Brit. Thanks vey much for your input. I asked my husband to plant them for me, and he just finished. Maybe I'll make a gardener out of him yet. Thanks again.-Phyllis
