Looks a bit like an Angels Trumpet to me, but could be wrong as I am not getting a good clear picture, good luck. maybe someone else will be more positive for you. WeeNel.

It's a Datura, often called Devil's Trumpet (over here what we call Angel trumpet is Brugmansia, which is closely related but the flowers hang down instead of pointing up)

Thank you both so much. I thought it was Datura but I cannot imagine how it got in a corner of my raised flower bed !! LOL

There are some weedy ones that spread themselves around, chances are it's one of those.

Question for you, does it bloom in daylight or at night?

I think there are at least some varieties that also only bloom at night, but there may be some that bloom during the day as well. I don't grow these and don't have any of the weedy ones around so I don't know for sure.

Looks like Datura Inoxia to me. Seeds scatter so easily or maybe dropped by a bird.

I know it as moon flower from a fellow landscaper who identified it to me in his garden and shared one with me for my garden... Cool plant.... flowers at night.....

Up here in Minnesota we call them Moon flowers. Each flower, like a day lily will open up at night and then die off the next day. Where the bloom was, a prickly ball full of hundreds of seeds will form on every single flower. You have to really love these guys though because of the millions of seeds per plant. This fella is growing in a crack in my patio. Every year for several years I get the funniest looks from friends and neighbors because stuff can get HUGE growing in that crack. Believe it or not, he is growing underneath my patio table and is about the size of a small car. LOL

Here is another one growing in pea gravel by my water faucit and general gardening junk storage place. The sunflower in front of it is another guy who likes to grow out of the crack in my patio floor. LOL. It's weired cause you would think for living in Minneapolis (and sometimes it gets to 50 degrees below zero) you would think I would have to go out and buy alot each year but every spring I get an endless supply of Moon Flowers, Tomato plants (I still buy those tho), Morning Glory's, Cleomes, Sun Flowers, etc. which are considered Annuals up here in Zone 4.

That is sure it Sandra-D....and I also recently noticed these prickly see balls on the plant.....now if I pick them off and toss them up in an area that I would love to have them grow do you think they will ?

I know they are poisonous so really do not want them so close to the house...but they are so pretty and I would love to enjoy them again next season !

Thanks all for your comments !

Put some stocking over the seed pod and wait for it to burst, clip off the seedpod with the stocking still on and plant right in the spot you want them next year.

Oh yeah Stormcloud, once you have one of these, you will have a hard time getting rid of them. Not that I would want to, and I don't think you would either they are that beautiful. However, they can and will take over your garden if you let them. Check out the brugmansias thread. The Hotties on the Brugs thread or so funny and that is where I found out that this plant, I had always known it as a Moon Flower here in Minnesota but in other parts of the country they are called Daturas. Go check them Hotties out. They are pretty funny.

Thanks for your help everyone !

Oh and stormcloud, I have been on vacation so I didn't read back but each one of those prickly balls is full of hundreds of seeds so if you have concerns that more won't pop up next year just take a couple of those pods in and let them dry out and plant them next year.

For some reason the ones that come from seed grow bigger and healthier than if I intentionally planted them somewhere.
