Hi,
I have just moved from zone 8 in Georgia to zone 6a in Kansas. I have moved into a place that wasn't previously landscaped, so I have a blank canvas to start with. The yard is already established with some kind of lawn grass that I am not familiar with and already has lots of established apple trees to the front and side of the house. My husband is in the process of building two new flower beds for me on each side of the entrance to our driveway. I do not know what will grow well here, but I prefer something perennial. I absolutely love azaleas and roses, but do not know if the azaleas will work for me here? I haven't done a soil test yet, because the ground is still frozen (which we are not used to at this late date in February). Friends have told me over the phone that the daffodils are blooming in Georgia and mine here haven't even started to come up out of the ground yet! YIKES!!! I must convince myself that there will be pros to living in zone 6a come the heat of summer, but it is going to take some getting used to the new plant options I have here. Does anyone have any suggestions for plants for my new flower beds at the entrance to my driveway. I would like to have different things that bloom all the way through the seasons. Thanks, June

Bouquets and a big welcome to Dave's, Jbug and waving to you across the prairie! Check out this site for a list of perennials that are hardy in zone 6. If you enjoy the 4 seasons, you will adapt and come to love gardening in Kansas.
