Could it be weigelia, like wine and roses or midnight wine or something, maybe.

Me too. Weigelia doesn't have such heavy leaves in my yard. Wonder about hydrangea macrophylla "Lady in Red"?

well I can't remember anything OR ID plants! lol
Guess I better mark this as solved. Now I wonder if I have enough shade for a couple of these. Fall interest plants get me ridiculously excited..pathetic isn't it? *grin*

Not ridiculous. You should see all the miscanthus grasses waving their seeds around for fall interest, lol.

good lord i forgot to mark it!
I LOVE miscanthus grasses, it's on my list *grin* my neverending list of plants i want. I need to work on "bones" first though. I have pennisetum and today I was admiring it's golden tan color, reeds bent over from a light frost, so pretty.

Pennisetums aren't as happy here as miscanthus. I have a pennisetum rubrum blooming in my houseplant area. It made me laugh.

I had moudry for several years but like all the other pennisetums, it disappeared. In fact, the only hardy pennisetum that likes it here is a handful of seedlings from Parks seed packet several years back. Now we have miscanthus strictus babies volunteering all over the yarden. Hmmm. I'll dig you a seedling miscanthus strictus x something in the spring if you remind me. They show nice markings but there are several miscanthus out there so I don't know what it crossed with.
