What's this plant?: SOLVED: SOLVED: large-leaved shrub in Washington state

Fruticosa Midway City, CA November 07, 2009 05:57 PM	I've seen this species a couple places in Vancouver, Washington recently, it catches my eye, and I'm just curious about what it is. It looks like it might be a weed. It has strikingly large leaves, tropical in appearance, despite the cold climate that sometimes gets snow. The leaves are maybe 1 1/2 feet long and radiate from a few nearly vertical stalks, and altogether the plant looks somewhat like a sunflower. Fruticosa Midway City, CA November 07, 2009 06:01 PM	Here's a cluster of leaves, about half the size than the large one pictured above, spilling over onto the porch. It looks like the plant has about 3-4 parallel stalks, with this leaf cluster coming from a stalk angled off to the side. View Larger

Resin Northumberland United Kingdom (Zone 9a) November 07, 2009 07:52 PM	Ditto to Paulownia tomentosa. You definitely don't want to leave it there, or it'll demolish the house. Make certain the roots are treated to prevent it sprouting, too. Resin
