Saw this bamboo on the street in NYC and was impressed by how straight it was. So many of them flop over. Can anyone ID it for me?

thanks

I think it may be the clumping all though ,not positive. Do you have a picture of the stalks?

Can you show a close-up of the culms & branches?

I don't have a close up. I only had my phone with me but I will try to get a better pic this week. It's definitely not clumping. I have some at home. The culms are straight and evenly spaced. It seemed to have red streaks up close. Let me work on getting a better shot.

Hi Italent! As many details as you can provide will help with ID.

An important feature of the bamboo is to see if there is a groove on the culm (stalk) right behind where the branches come out.

Well these aren't very good because I had to use my phone and the security guard did not seem to enjoy me taking photos, but maybe they will help. They are posted here.

Definitely Phyllostachys nigra http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1793/ or possibly the cultivar 'Bory' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/64094/
