Hi, I am relatively new to Daves Garden, and have been posting on the self contained garden forum.

I started my first veggie garden in a long time. I am in South Florida. I planted "Bandit" sweet corn on September 29. I interplanted Kentucky Wonder pole beans October 4th when the corn was about 4 inches high. Perhaps I should have waited another week, for my beans are outgrowing my corn at this point.

I think my corn has corn blight, but am not positive. Some lower leaves are browning, and newer leaves have brown elongated spots.

Thinking I had an insect pest, I sprayed last week, one evening, with insecticidal soap. I still think I have a bug, something tiny but perhaps blight as well. It has been very warm and humid here--in the mid to high 70's at night, and near 90 F during the day.

Does anyone have a control, organic preferable, that they recommend? I have posted this on the organic gardening forum as well

I am including a picture of the corn leaf with symptoms when it first appeared last week.

Sweet corn has a lot of problems in Florida, both insects and disease organisms which would freeze out in colder climates. http://pestdata.ncsu.edu/croptimelines/pdf/FLSweetCorn.pdf Souther corn blight is a good possibilty and while it can be controlled with fungicides, I don't which if any are organic approved. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pg057 http://ipm.illinois.edu/diseases/series200/rpd202/index.html... http://www.cbwinfo.com/Biological/PlantPath/BM.html It would seem that Chlorothalonil available to homeowners as Ortho® Max™ Garden Disease Control is the best bet for home gardeners.
Serenade Garden Disease Control is a broad spectrum organic approved fungicide, but I don't know if it will work on corn blight or rust.

Thanks so much for the useful links, Farmer Dill. I will look for the Serenade locally! I did see it advertised online while I was doing an internet search for controls. I will keep the Ortho Max in mind as well.

Thanks Again
Kathy
