Moon is a poet
Yes, it is true!
On the DG website this may be something new.

But deep in her heart
It's always been there...

Let's hope those poems aren't something that's rare!

Morning Moon, Smiley, Trina ( I know your'e somewhere around)

Trina you think its an aster? I guess we'll see what happens when it blooms.
Didn't pull it cause Dave wanted to see blooms, but I usually pull if I don't know what it is.
Since that approach got my hibiscus yanked I have slowed down.

At my house probably a weed that when it blooms I will never get rid of. LOL
Getting ready to head outside with my freshly mixed industrial strength roundup and head over to the neighbors. Creeping charlie is creeping under my fence.ugh

Later have to head out to country to help a couple. Gonna ask them if I can post pic of their place to get ideas of some plants I can plant for them that don't need much tending. They have a place built like a chalet with two ponds and a nice cement patio with fountain. Probably use to be gorgeous but now overrun with weeds. I am trying to clean it up for them but time is hard to find. My DH went out there and mowed it all and took him 11 hours!!

JJs, I think it has something to do with whether your browser has a pop-up ad blocker feature on it or not. I have not seen any of the ads you guys have been talking about, except for just a second a green frog snagging a cell phone and that was only once. My DHJim has no tolerance for pop-up ads so the computers are set to block them.

Guess your DH realizes how serious those things can be....or did you offer him bag balm and a faulty zipper? grin

Morning Trina. No, haven't seen your poem yet....been trying to get inside stuff done so I can get outside stuff done...busy day today.

No I didn't say a word. Ya know if you let them think its their idea it ok.

I have the popup blocker on, unchecked everything under tools but still have a simple shoe ad.
But then most the time after a page loads it says done, but with errors. I have a friend whosw son is coming home this weekend that works alot with puters hoping I can get him to come over and give me a tune up. My son usually does it but I don't think he knows as much as he thinks he does.

A year and counting...well, since it is a graft, you may get a plain old wild cherry if that is the root stock. Give it a shot of fertilizer to help it over come the shock. If it starts sprouting from below the graft, you'll have to decide if you want wild cherries or not. If you see any budding on the upper part it may just survive. Got my fingers crossed. Do post pictures of the neighbor's yard and we will try to help you come up with some ideas...is the the neighbor whose garbage your DH "stole"? LOL

My neighbor has the creeping charlie.

But yes the house and yard I want to spruce up belong to the "stolen garbage". It is out in the country all by itself. I know if she could see she would be furious at the way it looks. I was so mad because last year she had a company come out to trim bushes and a couple trees and weeds and all they did was spray the weeds, trim evergreen bushes and cut down a small tree probably all of 10 hrs tops and charged her almost 3 grand.

Shame on them for taking advantage of a blind woman....gotta hope kharma kicks in soon. Wish I was closer so I could help you....stars and crowns to you for being so kind.

Smiley, I have that nasty little green variety of tradescantia all over my shade garden....grrr I hate it so much, that i am planning to dig up all the small plants, cover the shrubs with tarps and plastic and bombard the area with a good broadleaf herbicide, Round-up won't be of much help here cuz it really needs sun to work at its' best. Been fighting it for 8 years and everytime I think I have won, it creeps out and rears its' pretty little white flowered head.

Good day to you all, gotta get this train on the track...GSJordan is going to his Dad's for the weekend....three days of no homework, bedtimes, baths or meals on time...DHJim has promised to help get some of the garden projects done...I promised steaks on the grill...we'll see who keeps their promises....me cuz I'm heading to the store now...NYah haha

Hey Venice, you can use your calcium pills as fertilizer, but grind them up first. If your area has limestone rich soil, that will work too. Calcium carbonate / limestone is very inexpensive, much cheaper that using your supplements.

Usually, seeds from modern hybrids don't make good plants, but if you like growing them might as well try it.

Once again, if the plant is polyembryonic it will resemble the parent.

All Avocados have the potential to produce fruit, if the seedling is not polyembryonic, you have no idea of whether the fruit will be good or not.

We have a number of nonsubs who read our posts, and a few that have become subs because they found a sense of camaraderie here and wanted to be a part of it. Aside from PlantID, InsectID and the plant files, the Beginning Forums are the only ones that allow nonsubs....and that is why we are here. Venice this is not my place. It belongs to an elderly couple I help sometimes and it has gotten overrun with weeds. I went out and sprayed today and am hoping for some input on what I can plant for them to keep weeds down after I get it cleaned up. I'm sure in its younger days it was something else.

JJs, it is such a shame that the homeowner is blind and cannot enjoy such a beautiful view. Perhaps we can figure out a way to get lots of fragrance and birds to sing for her, so at least she will derive some joy from her yard.

And don't worry, we won't leave you in the lurch...maybe we could get them to add photo capability to Welcome Home forum. It is open to nonsubscribers also.

Appreciate that moon, but I wll just subscribe not a big deal. One less trip to mcdonalds or skip some donuts and ice cream. j/k

I will take some more pics once we get some of those weeds gone. Biggest cockle burrow bush I've seen in a long time sitting right smack dab next to the patio.

It really is a neat place nothing around and another small pond on other side of the driveway.

Not quite sure what is growing below the balcony, no magnifyers on these bi-focals....grin

They did hire someone once but I feel was taken advantage of. eventually I am sure they will have to move but for now I can't stand the weeds and when her DH decides he is going to do it lets just say its not safe.

Moon believe it or not there is some kind of low growing evergreen growing under that grass!! He is working on pulling that grass, we watered it down so would be easier. The spray I used would have killed it. If anybody knows of something that won't kill the plant but will kill the weeds, I would gladly buy some. There is alot that is going to have to be hand pulled.

Thats why I thought after the weeds get more under control I would get new pics. Hard to tell what there is under them.

Garden watchdog lists unscrupulous vendors, less than upfront traders, nurseries that don't honor their claims or ship inferior products, etc. Go Gardening is a list of various garden related businesses and their locations, hours etc so if you are travelling in an area, you can see what is available to visit/buy. One small clarification. The Garden Watchdog (often referred to as GWD for short) lists almost 7,000 mail order companies--mostly good, a few not-so-good. About 70% of all the comments are positive reviews, so it isn't really focused on the unsavory places. ok so let me get this straight between us the paid subscribers (no offense intended to the unsubs) and the advertisers, they get enough money to run the site,

but if you actually want to get into the site you have to block the advertisers becuase they mess things up or direct you to obscene sites

but because we "Chat" too much we're being kicked out of here to and reminded that we have a plant id forum...

well the people on that forum are rude and most of the time never answer you.

So we are being directed to another part of the site which only subscribers can go to because we "Chat" which is the whole point of the website in the first place

because it seems like they don't want the subs and unsubs speaking to each other

so does that pretty much sum things up?

Quoting:but if you actually want to get into the site you have to block the advertisers becuase they mess things up or direct you to obscene sites

If any ad is causing problems or directing you to an obscene site, please use the "Contact us" link at the bottom of every page of our site to reach our admin team. Please describe what the ad was for, and where it was located. The ads are generally home/garden related, or geared toward the demographics of people who use our site. We take a strong stance against any obscene sites, and our sales team is also very sensitive about ads that are overly obtrusive.

Quoting:well the people on that forum are rude and most of the time never answer you.

I'm sorry you've had that experience, but if you have specific concerns we encourage you to use the same link I referred to above to contact us. We can't make everyone be friendly, but we do expect our members to be civil to one another.

Quoting:because it seems like they don't want the subs and unsubs speaking to each other

Not at all. We're really not in a "we" and "they" situation--as admins, we're also members here ;o) We offer about 50 forums that are free to all members to use. We have found the "chat' type forums can sometimes get personal, so they're a little more private (but with over 7,000 subscribers able to read what you post in them, we don't encourage people to divulge deep, dark secrets.)

We've also found that by reserving the chat-type forums for subscribing members, the participants tend to be a little more respectful of each other. Not always, but generally speaking, they don't engage in flame wars or deliberately offend or provoke one another. The knowledge that such behavior can lead to a revoked membership tends to carry a little more weight when you've paid for the access.

That said, we don't pressure anyone to subscribe. But we do try to keep each forum relatively on-topic (with the necessary latitude, given that we're dealing with over 450,000 members.)

The fair...sigh...didn't make it. Went to leave and went looking for my cat so I didn't shut him in the office or the closet. Couldn't find him. Even went around with cat treats, the way he likes to eat that's always a ringer. No cat. Then it occurred to me I had gone outside last night after it was dark. I thought "the boys" were asleep and probably just barely closed the door. My cat sometimes likes to open the door and creep out but usually only to the front steps. Also my dog usually stops him.
I went around the corner to get a picture of the moon which was looking fabulous (will post it next, bad picture because I didn't stabilize my hands). Anyway he must have snuck out and I didn't see him because he's basically black and it was pretty dark. Probably walked right by him hiding under the BBQ. I'm pretty sure that's what happened because 10 min. before that he was sitting on my lap. I only ran a couple of errands close by and stuck around home to see if he came back or if someone called. No luck. Blasted cat is spoiled rotten but he takes off. Bah! I told a friend if he doesn't turn up I'm getting another dog. My dog never takes off, even if I have the gate open. My cat's micro-chipped and has tags so we'll see.

And not to cause problems but why are their threads that chat and are longer that are allowed to exist peacefully while we are getting in trouble? Do we need to mention mint or basil at the end of each post & post some pictures of one of the two every so often to stay on topic & that would be o.k.? Not trying to be a smart alack or anything, just trying to figure what makes our threads inappropriate when others are considered all right.

We're striving to be consistent here, and gently encourage each forum to be used for its stated purpose.

Every thread serves two purposes: one is immediate, while it's a current, active thread. The other one is historical--others may wish to refer to threads for specific questions or tips.

We understand being asked to move to a different forum isn't always fun, but if we didn't move threads around to their proper "homes" and ask our members to use the appropriate forums, then each forum would become a hodge-podge of stuff, and no one would be able to find anything.

Haven't had it but it's a shrub. It's supposed to be one of the better tasting lemon plants. I grew lemon balm this year and it smelled good but the taste is more like dish washing detergent. Blah. Once again, that's my taste buds.

Thanks Terry.
Sorry, still not clear on why we are deemed inappropriate but a few other multi issue threads are o.k.
Is there something we can add to keep our individual threads considered appropriate? If we keep each thread under 100 posts is that o.k.? We are talking about plants the bulk of the time. Including showing pics of plants in our homes and gardens & asking for i.d.'s. Just trying to figure out a way that everyone can be included and we can post our pics. Since technically there is no forum that will allow us to do that. I'm sure it seems like I'm being a pain but I'm honestly not trying to be.

I personally think Terry has picked us out for some reason. I skip around all over the place and all the threads except the day lily thread turn into discussion and some fun. We just happen to have more people that follow our threads than anyone else. I have seen no one intimidated. All have joined in and enjoyed the threads. Cat, JJs, Smileymom, and Venice just to name a few. Isn't it funny that we have been responsible for a few folks even becoming subscribing members. I have found no threads that have a panel of people that are very proficient in naming and identifying plants. I no of no thread that has as many different plants pictures posted as ours. I find it amusing on the other threads to find Moon and Dave and others from our thread chiming in and giving good sound advise and identification to plants. I love day lilys and often go there, but usually all you find is a lot of pretty pictures. Only on one thread did I find any information that was helpful and useful. I go to the Beginners Vegetable Gardening and all I find is the same questions asked over and over again. I really think that they ought to thank us for being where we are and adding a little life and interest to what can get very dull and boring. Without our crew Dave's could turn into a Garden Forum like the ten or fifteen others I looked at before I started posting hear regularly. If they keep keep kicking us around and acting like we are contaminating Dave's, I'll pack my suitcase and find somewhere else to play.

Jim, but I can promise you that you haven't been singled out. We won't pretend we read all 2,000 posts a day, but when we find out-of-place threads, we move them. We're simply trying to steer you to the right place--I think you'll find a lot of similar chat+plants type discussions in the forums that lend themselves to chatting.

But we can't bring all our friends and post our pictures too. That's the problem we're experiencing here. Why is our thread any more inappropriate, especially since we do talk about plants? If we have several to be ID'd on one thread, or are showing pictures of plants we have or have seen, why is this wrong? If the thread is under 100 posts, why is that a bad thing? It is a beginning garden type chat, with various intertwined discussions included. As Jim mentioned, you certainly see that on other forums in other threads. So would a shorter thread be considered o.k.?
