Landscaping: Pruning Upright Japanese Maple

Mbfirey Pageland, SC August 30, 2009 01:39 PM	I've got an upright Japanese maple, the kind that with time will be about 20+ feet tall. It's about 4' tall- and I noticed now that it has a trunk that divides in the middle about 1 foot up on the tree- so that on each of the 2 sides has about 50% of the branches... I've read that you should never let a tree get 2 main trunks(Co-Dominant I think) because this causes weakness later on. My question is: Does that apply to an upright Japanese maple too? Or is it different since it will never be a "Huge" tree?

Mbfirey Pageland, SC August 31, 2009 01:30 PM	I would...but isn't the forum closed to nonsubscribers?- Also this applies more the common "Tree Type" as opposed to the fancy smaller types that most people there would be talking about...not that I don't love the small ones too.
