I seeded an area in my backyard and used Scott's Patchmaster. The results of the grass turned out well but I didn't roll the area and now have a soft bed. The grass is about 21/2 -3 inches and I would like to mow it. I am afraid I will pull up some of the dirt or sink and skim the ground. Can I roll the ground now that the grass is as tall as it is? Thanks.
Use a roller, tool that helps flatten/level the ground. Some rollers are filled with water to add weight and then you roll over the ground to flatten/level it. I tilled up around 2 inches of dirt as directed and wasn't sure if I should roll it since patchmaster isn't something I have used before (it's the grass that comes with fertilizer and "mulch"). As the grass grew, the ground stayed fairly soft and now I am worried that I will pull up some grass as I mow it.
Vaguely recall seeing that done when sod is laid. I've never rolled the ground after seeding or using Patchmaster.
Did you rake it flat before putting the Patchmaster down? Has the mulch part of the patchmaster dissolved yet? 3" is the recommended height to mow a newly seeded lawn.
