Three years ago I inherited a home. There was a beautiful daylily garden in the front. Since then, the daylilies have been infested with mint to the point that the mint is choking the lilies out. Any ideas on how to get rid ot the mint?
Move? All I can seriously suggest is to keep pulling it out as best you can. Very invasive. I grow it in pots for just that reason and don't let it go to seed.
Are you opposed to using roundup? I'm not crazy about it, but have been using it on trumpet vine that grows around and right in the middle of daylilies plants. I inheirted the trumpet vine. I've been using roundup where there is no plant. Where its coming up through the plant, I bend it flat to the ground beside the plant. Then I use a heavy wire that is bent into sorta' a U shape and pin it to the ground. (Lanscape pins work too, but I don't have any). I use a paint brush and a cup of mixed round-up and paint the plant. I even dip the ends of the trumpet vine in the cup sometimes. This is slow work, but I have't found a better way. I started in the spring when things were small and I'm still at it - but making progress.
If the mint comes out of the ground easily and in one piece, its probably easier to just keep pulling it out.
